Astrology 101: When Venus is Being a Bitch

I have talked a bit about Mercury retrogrades, but I received an anonymous request to discuss Venus retrogrades. A most excellent request!

For those who are unaware or do not check their ephemeris almost religiously like I do, we are currently in a Venus retrograde. Do you feel it? You probably do but don’t realize it. Retrogrades overall create a sort of cosmic limbo in our lives. I’m always trying to find new ways of explaining it, and that is what you are getting at this moment. The limbo affects what the planet rules for the most part. Venus of course is all about emotions, friendships, relationships, intimacy, romance, etc. Do not think of a Venus retrograde as though she is having her period. Retrogrades are not volatile or comparable to roller coaster rides. They are more like…you are trying to ride the damn roller coaster, but for some reason you just can’t get on no matter how hard you try. Well, sometimes you can. Anyway.

During the Venus retrograde, anything regarding those things she rules will be out of sorts in your own life. It is a good time to figure things out, but nothing will actually be figured out until she is fully direct again. If you are brave enough to try things out, go ahead. They will probably go wrong, but everything is a learning experience. Emotions are also muddy, which makes thoughts about feelings all muddy as well. The things you try, these emotions you are trying to figure out, they will remain tangled, but Venus does not let you ignore them. Retrogrades do not just let you hope things untangle themselves. It takes a lot of effort to let go and just go with the flow during retrogrades.

If you’ve been feeling like obstacles just keep you from going and from stopping to rest, blame the fickle bitch that is Venus, and keep in mind that like all things this, too, shall pass.

She goes direct at the end of the month, so this will pass soonish. Hang in there!

Time to Turn Around

When planets go retrograde, in a way that means you should, too. It is not a time to start new things but revisit old things or just keep doing what you are doing. When new relationships, contracts, deals, businesses, etc. are started especially during a Mercury retrograde, that stand still theme will be difficult to escape even when the planet goes direct. It is best just to wait when the planet is fully direct again.

Today, Mercury is officially in retrograde until April 5th. Mars has been in retrograde and will go direct April 15th. Basically, we can all breathe a little easier after tax day. No surprises there. During this time if you feel like catching up with old friends, go with it. It is not the time to pursue new ones. If someone proposes to you, well, that just doesn’t make sense. The retrograde affects everyone, and they are going against the grain rather than doing what feels right. The universe will shake its metaphorical head and go, “What are you doing?!” Again, wait until the planets are direct and then decide. This is not an important decision making time. Decisions are especially difficult and tedious.

If you must travel during a Mercury retrograde, take precautions. Expect delays and even breakdowns, but also remember people fly all the time during retrogrades and are just fine, so there is no need to panic and freak out. Just don’t taunt the gods of fate. They don’t like that and have a twisted sense of humour.

Oh, no! Watch out!

The Moon is full, and soon Mercury will be in retrograde. Joy!

But what does it mean???

Well, the Moon is full today and in Virgo. It basically throws things out of whack by intensifying emotions. The full Moon is a day of push and pull…mostly pull. It is in opposition to the Sun. It’s especially felt by people whose birthdays are right around the time of the full Moon because that means the Moon is in opposition to YOU! Most likely. Well, let me tell you, my ADHD and GAD are running on high right now. This needs to end soon!

But when it does end, we have a Mercury retrograde to look forward to. Boo! Mercury retrogrades are just a huge inconvenience. It is a bad time to start new projects, sign contracts, or travel. During Mercury retrogrades, it is best to just keep doing what you are already doing, revisit and reconsider what you’ve done, or hide out until it’s all over. Unfortunately St. Patrick’s Day (my favourite holiday) is during the retrograde, so hiding out is not an option. I’ll also be traveling. Just know that if you must travel, sign a contract, get married, etc. while Mercury is being an asshole, hope for the best and plan for the worst.
